Couples Psychotherapy

What is Couples Psychotherapy?

In a relationship, we all want the same thing: the feeling that we are seen, heard, and that we can rely on each other. But when daily obligations, stress, or unresolved disappointments creep into the relationship, that sense of security can quickly crumble.

Anxiety, withdrawing into silence, or repeated outbursts of anger are often not a sign that you no longer love your partner. In fact, these reactions are most often a cry for closeness—an attempt to protect the relationship or yourself when you feel ignored, attacked, or lonely.

Therapy offers you both a neutral and safe environment where you can let down your defenses and discover together what is truly driving your misunderstandings and estrangement.

When is couples therapy a good choice?

  • When conflicts keep recurring: When it seems that every argument ends the same way—one person attacks or demands answers, while the other shuts down, withdraws, or falls silent.

  • When you feel emotionally distant: When you’re living more like roommates or organizers of family life, and the void between you grows larger day by day.

  • When security and trust are shaken: In cases of betrayal, loss of trust, major life changes (the birth of a child, moving, changing jobs, etc.), or long-standing resentments.

  • When facing intimacy and communication issues: When it’s hard to say out loud what you’re really feeling and what you need without sparking another conflict.

What do our sessions look like?

  • Identifying Your "Vicious Cycle": Instead of blaming each other, work together to recognize the pattern you’re both caught in. Learn to see that your partner isn’t your enemy—rather, your real enemy is the unhealthy communication pattern you’re creating together.

  • A Look Beneath the Surface of Emotions: Anger, criticism, and silence are merely an outer shield. In therapy, we create a safe enough space for you to recognize and express the more vulnerable feelings hidden beneath that shield—the fear of loss, loneliness, and the desire to be accepted.

  • Building a Secure Connection: We’re developing concrete, new ways to respond. As you learn to listen to each other without putting up defenses, your partnership gradually becomes a safe haven again—a place where both of you can find refuge.

Sometimes we don't need a completely new relationship, but just a new way of communicating with each other. Therapy helps you reconnect and restore a sense of trust in your relationship.
