Individual psychotherapy

What is Individual Systemic Psychotherapy?

When we find ourselves in distress, we often feel that the problem lies solely within us—in our anxiety, loss of motivation, or the feeling that we’re not good enough. But none of us lives in a vacuum. We’re all part of larger narratives: our nuclear families, our relationships, our work environments, and our circles of friends.

Individual systemic therapy doesn’t just look at you as an individual; it places you within the context of the relationships you’re part of.

You may come to a session alone, but you symbolically bring your entire network of relationships with you. When we understand where you’ve taken on certain roles, why you repeat the same patterns, and how you react to the responses of those around you, you gain the power to break those patterns.

When is individual systemic therapy a good choice?

  • When Relationship Issues Keep Recurring: When you realize that, in a romantic relationship, a friendship, or at work, you keep getting caught up in similar conflicts or feelings of misunderstanding.

  • When you have trouble setting boundaries: When you find it hard to say “no,” take on responsibility for other people’s emotions, or feel drained and trapped in your relationships.

  • During times of personal hardship and turning points: When dealing with anxiety, burnout, illness, grief, divorce, or major life decisions.

  • When Your Partner or Family Refuses to Go to Therapy: If you want to improve your relationships, but your loved ones aren’t ready to attend sessions together. When you change the way you respond, it triggers a change in those around you.

What do our sessions look like?

  • Understanding Your Story: In a calm and safe environment, we explore your current struggles and examine how they are connected to your past experiences and relationships.

  • Uncovering Hidden Roles: Together, we will identify the roles you have unconsciously taken on (e.g., the one who always has to solve everything; the one who puts their own needs aside; the one who keeps the peace at home) and examine whether these roles still serve you today.

  • Finding New Ways to Respond: We don’t try to change other people, because that’s beyond our control. Instead, we help you build your inner strength, clarity, and new ways of communicating that allow you to stay true to yourself in your relationships.

Individual systemic therapy helps you break free from a vicious cycle, recognize your true needs, and begin to live more freely—both in your own life and in your relationships with others.
